Sustainable and circular materials
Description
Ecosystemics focuses its interests on how to minimize the environmental impacts of materials and building components in architecture through a Life Cycle and circular approach.
The cross-border cooperation project Me.R. Méditerranéen en réseau (2014-2016) has supported the innovation of SMEs within key business areas in the Italy-France area, such as renewable energies and materials sectors. The transnational project Sustainable Construction in Rural and Fragile Areas for Energy efficiency (SCORE) (2012-2013), within the MED programme, has investigated sustainable policies for the building sector in fragile coastal and rural MED areas with exceptional landscape values. Through the scientific cooperation (2015-2020) with the Institut Universitaire de Technologie of the University of Corse ‘Pascal Paoli’, the research groups developed the course “Construction durable dans la Méditerranée”.
The life cycle thinking is one of the approaches adopted by Ecosystemics to explore sustainable innovation in design and construction processes. In this regard, the research group collaborates with Linnaeus University (Sweden), also supported by grants such as from C.M. Lerici foundation (2016, Stockholm). The research group has also cooperated with business environment, developing research on traditional and innovative structural systems (2017-2018), in collaboration with the Department of Civil, Chemical and Environmental Engineering (Professor Chiara Calderini, PI ).
Our research findings have also inspired the regional project BEST Forest: Energy and Development for the Territory (2014-2015), cofounded by the ERDF – O.P. Liguria Region, developing a multidisciplinary postgraduate course on wood technology.
