Ecosystemics is interested in the recent insights of neuroscience on spatial experience and on the cognitive processes involved in the design process.
We think this body of knowledge constitutes a great chance to refocus the attention of architecture design on the primarily bodily, multisensorial, and precognitive dimensions of the spatial experience. Acknowledging this contributes to enriching the paradigm on the environmental quality that architecture sustainable design nowadays targets. Addressing the problem with a neurophenomenological approach, we are focusing our research on imagination as a design tool that can channel embodied experiential data into the design process, so that architecture can resonate with the body of the inhabitant. Using the methodologies of experimental psychology and neurophysiology we are carrying out experiments to gain an understanding of the relationship between imagination and digital tools for architecture design.
